Born with a physical disability and hailing from Aladakatti village in Savadatti taluk, Lakshmi has emerged as an inspiring para basketball player who has brought pride to the country through her achievements at the international level.

A postgraduate in Political Science, Lakshmi got her first opportunity in sports in 2018. Under the guidance of coach Basappa Shindolli, she began her journey and won a bronze medal in her first National Championship held in Punjab in 2019.

Six months later, she attended a training camp in Bangkok but missed out on selection to the final team. Determined to come back stronger, she intensified her training. However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her plans. With the support of Vishwas Foundation, she resumed practice and, after the pandemic, earned a place in the Indian team.

In 2024, she was selected for the Indian team, and in 2025 she successfully cleared the international selection camp held in Bangkok. So far, she has won 10 medals at the national and international levels.

Lakshmi was working as a Kannada guest teacher when she was selected to represent India. When her school refused to grant her leave for training, she made the courageous decision to resign from her job and dedicate herself fully to the sport.

Today, from the small village of Aladakatti to the international stage, Lakshmi's remarkable journey stands as a testament to perseverance and determination. She is now set to represent India in Scotland, where the Indian para basketball team will make its historic debut at the Commonwealth Games.
